How To: Inspire Yourself and Those Around You
I’ve put together a short clip on all of this if you prefer video content.
Monday mornings. Some people dread them, other people love them- it’s the dichotomy that fascinates me as a business leader, and it’s one of the clearest signs of whether or not you’ve got good culture in your organisation that is keeping everyone motivated and productive- and excited to come into work on a Monday. Let's talk about the easiest way to reverse this trend.
Empowering through Self-Improvement
Have you been in a role or work situation where you felt as though you were stagnating?
We all have.
This is, without a doubt, the most impactful way of gaining - and retaining - the attention and inspiration of your staff members is to encourage them to keep learning. If you can inspire through empowerment, you’re likely to retain that individual long-term as they’ll recognise the fact that you encouraged and allowed them to learn a new skill that wasn’t part of their daily tasks.
I’ve said time and time again, I'm in the business of buying brains, so I want to make sure those brains are constantly challenging themselves and learning new skills that they can add to the workplace. I believe that not enough managers are encouraging their employees to learn new skills, and because of this, too many managers are losing good staff members, and on the flip-side, too many individuals are sitting at a desk that doesn’t value them enough.
“Individually, they’re more capable and empowered. As a business, we’re more adaptable to the dynamism of the market and resilient in the face of challenges.” -
The statistics show that if you can provide your staff with learning opportunities, you’re vastly more likely to retain them in the long term. What’s more, the quality of their work is going to rise in-line with their experience, and they’ll be more likely to show up on Monday morning with a desire to challenge themselves than someone that hasn’t been considering things like personal and professional development.
Ideally, what you’re trying to spark is a positive feedback loop that encourages everyone in the organisation to challenge themselves. This is, quite simply, how you inspire - and continue to inspire - organisations of all shapes and sizes.
This is most difficult in the context of individuals- but thankfully, the Best Practice Training Academy can help out. Our courses are easily-digested, and contain information and learning outcomes that are applicable across all industries. If you’re looking for something more tailored to a management system, our ‘How to Implement a Management System’ ebook is an invaluable resource for your journey.
Here at Best Practice, the services we provide for organisation is that we take our business coaches, and we empower and educate, drawing upon the decades of experience our coaches have acquired. We coach and guide a either the whole organisation, or the quality manager in that organisation to ensure they can pick the right elements - to aid where the organisation is lacking - and implement new strategies into their business. One of the desired outcomes with our practices is that we’re hoping to kick-start your journey of improvement, but also encourage a change in the culture of your organisation to one that is more inspirational for your staff.
There’s clear-cut correlations between job satisfaction and the culture of a business. This will segment off into things like staff retention, and of course your productivity. As we’ve already mentioned, from my personal experience, one of the easiest things you can do to encourage a new productive culture is to get your staff members to learn. Unwittingly, they’ll begin feeling more valued and productive in their current role, and their aspirations and goal-setting will be loftier.
You want to be altruistic in this case, and simply be happy for your staff members that they are learning a new skill; there is undoubtedly a benefit for your organisation when your staff to improve- it’s called a cycle of continual improvement for a reason after all.
